"Traditional Mexican food is simple and delicious, but we typically enjoy it here in the states as the fusion cuisine known as "Tex-Mex." 

I would argue that, although the Southwest is geographically closer to the border, the food culture of the Southeast makes for an even better marriage with the rustic, comforting cuisine of the Mexican home kitchen.
